If you smell gas, leave first

A gas smell is not a plumbing appointment. Leave the building right away with everyone inside. Do not flip light switches, use a phone inside, light anything or start a car in an attached garage. From outside, call 911 or your gas utility's emergency number.

The Town of Whitestown names CenterPoint Energy as its natural gas provider. If you are in Zionsville, check your gas bill for the company that serves you, since we do not know which utility that is for your address. Call a plumber only after the utility or fire department says the building is safe.

What counts as plumbing installation

Installation is new work, as opposed to repairing something that has failed. It includes setting fixtures like toilets, sinks, tubs, showers and laundry boxes. It also includes running new supply and drain lines, adding vents, and connecting appliances such as dishwashers, ice makers and water heaters.

If you are replacing an existing fixture, that is closer to a swap than a build. If you are moving it, adding one or putting a bathroom where none existed, that is a rough-in, and it is a different scale of job. We help you sort out which one you are planning before we price it.

Fixtures and appliances we install

Bring us the fixture you picked, or let us help match one to your space and water setup.

  • Toilets Standard and comfort height. EPA WaterSense labeled models use 1.28 gallons per flush or less, compared with up to 6 gallons for old units.
  • Sinks and faucets Kitchen, bath and utility sinks, including supply lines and shutoff valves, which we usually replace at the same time.
  • Tubs and showers Valves, drains and trim. We set the rough-in depth to match the valve you chose.
  • Dishwashers and ice makers Supply, drain and air gap or high loop, so wastewater cannot flow back into the machine.
  • Garbage disposals Mounting, electrical connection by a qualified person where needed, and a clean drain tie-in. See garbage disposal service for repairs.
  • Water heaters Tank and tankless units, with venting and expansion control where the setup calls for it. Details are on our water heater installation page.

Remodel rough-in: kitchens, baths and basements

Rough-in is the pipework that goes in before drywall closes the walls. It sets where the drain, vent and supply lines will be, and mistakes are expensive to fix later. A toilet flange a few inches out of position stays that way, and a missing vent can cause slow drains and gurgling in a bathroom you just finished.

Before anything is cut, we confirm fixture locations, cabinet and tub sizes, drain slope and vent paths. Basement bathrooms add the question of where the waste goes. If the fixtures sit below the main sewer line, a sewage ejector pump may lift the waste up, which we install alongside the rest of the work. See our sump and ejector pump page for that equipment.

Which kind of install job is yours

The size of the job changes what happens on site, so it helps to know where yours falls.

Job typeWhat it involvesWhat to expect
Fixture swapReplace like for like at the existing supply and drain.A short visit when the old connections are sound.
Added fixtureNew supply and drain branch, often a vent, in a wall or floor. Some drywall or flooring opened to reach pipes.
Bathroom or kitchen remodelRough-in before finishes, then trim-out after. Two visits at least, scheduled around other trades.
New constructionUnderground, rough-in and finish stages on a new building.Coordination with the builder and inspection steps.
Appliance hookupSupply, drain and shutoff for a washer, dishwasher or ice maker.Check the shutoff valve and drain height first.

New construction plumbing

New construction plumbing happens in stages. Underground drain lines go in before the slab or basement floor is poured. The rough-in follows once the framing is up, and the final trim-out comes after drywall and finishes. Each stage needs to match the builder's plans and the schedule of the other trades.

We work with builders and owner-builders on smaller projects such as additions, garages, accessory buildings and single homes. We do not take large subdivision contracts. The Zionsville Planning & Building Department reviews permits and enforces building code, so confirm the permit before we start.

Gas lines: what we do and what we do not

Once the building is safe and the utility has cleared you, gas piping inside the house can be inspected, repaired or extended for appliances such as a range, dryer, water heater or furnace. Gas work involves leak testing the pipe with pressure, not just a smell, because low-level leaks are easy to miss.

We do not touch the utility's own lines or meter. Those belong to the gas company. Gas work usually needs a permit, so ask the Zionsville Planning & Building Department what applies and have the permit in hand before we start. Never test for a leak with a flame, and do not cap or move a gas line yourself.

Backflow assemblies

When supply pressure drops, water already inside a building can be siphoned backward into the public main. A backflow assembly is a valve set that blocks that reverse flow. You will find one on many irrigation systems, fire sprinkler feeds and boiler fills.

We install and replace assemblies, and we can test them. The type required and the testing schedule come from your water utility and the Town, so ask them before you buy a device. Shops and restaurants have extra cases, covered under commercial plumbing.

How an install job runs

Here is the order we follow on most installation work.

1

You call and describe the job

Tell us the rooms, the fixtures and any plans or drawings. Photos of the space help.

2

We look at the space

We check access, existing pipe size and material, water pressure and where drains and vents can run.

3

You get a clear price

We explain what is included, what is not and whether a permit is needed before work starts.

4

Permit and scheduling

If a permit is required, it goes through the Town first. We then set dates around your other trades.

5

Install, test and walk-through

We pressure test new lines, check drains and vents, and show you the shutoff valves before we leave.

What affects the price of plumbing installation

A faucet swap and a basement bathroom share almost nothing, so price ranges would mislead. Here is what moves the number.

Scope of the work

Swapping a fixture, adding one and building a rough-in are priced differently. Say which one you want.

Access to pipes

Open framing is cheaper to work in than a finished wall or a slab.

Materials and fixtures

Pipe type, valves and the fixture you choose all change the total. Premium fixtures can need special rough-in parts.

Permits and inspections

Some work needs a permit. Confirm with the Zionsville Planning & Building Department.

Related repairs

Old shutoff valves, corroded supply lines or poor venting may need attention when we open things up.

Insurance rarely pays for planned installation. A standard homeowner policy usually covers sudden and accidental water damage, but not the cost of upgrading fixtures or fixing wear. Check your policy and ask your agent if the work follows a loss.

Plumbing installation in Zionsville and nearby towns

Our shop address is 11530 S US 421. Installs outside town limits are fine too, and the Whitestown service area page lists how we cover our Boone County neighbour. Before digging for a new line outside, Indiana 811 must receive an excavation notice at least two full working days ahead, and no more than ten calendar days before.

Hire only a licensed plumber for installs, since Indiana treats unlicensed contracting as unlawful. We are licensed and insured, and we will not begin work that needs a permit until it is in hand.

Frequently asked questions

Installation is new work, such as adding a fixture or running new lines. Repair fixes something that was working and failed.

Many jobs mix both. If we find a corroded valve while installing a faucet, we tell you before we replace it.

Permit rules vary, so ask the Zionsville Planning & Building Department at 1100 W Oak Street. A like-for-like swap and a new bathroom are not treated the same way.

We will say what we plan to do so you can ask the right question.

No. Leave the building, then call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Do not use switches or phones inside.

Call a plumber only after the utility or fire department says it is safe.

Often yes. The deciding question is where the waste goes. If the new drain sits below the sewer line, a sewage ejector pump is needed.

We look at the basement floor, the existing drain and the main line before we plan it.

Yes. We install, replace and test assemblies. Your water utility and the Town decide which type and testing schedule apply.

Ask them first, then tell us the size and make if you know it.

Yes. We can set stages around framers, electricians and drywall crews. Send us plans or a fixture list ahead of time.

For large subdivision work we are not the right fit.

Usually yes. Check that the fixture fits the rough-in and has all its parts. Keep the box and instructions.

We can also help you choose a fixture that matches your supply and drain setup.

Search the name on the state's online license verification, run through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

Do it before you sign. A licensed contractor will not mind.
